JUNE 4
See one of the 1980's most notorious cult classics, peak Stallone era COBRA, restored in 4k by Arrow in all its pulpy, so-bad-it's-good 80's excess!
Los Angeles policeman Lt. Marion "Cobra" Cobretti (Sylvester Stallone) finds himself at the center of a spate of murders carried out by a secret society called New Order: killers who select "weak" members of society for extermination. As the murder rate rises, Cobra takes model Ingrid (Brigitte Nielsen) into protective custody after she witnesses New Order's leader in action. As Cobra falls for Ingrid, they find shelter in a small town, but must soon fight for survival.
Considered pretty lousy by any applicable critical standard of the time, Cobra nevertheless punched a gratuitous hole in the '86 Summer box office. The straight-played ultra-machismo and super violence of Cobra feels both like a cliched relic, and wildly entertaining, out of place and time. The ensuing decades have assured we can not take Cobra as seriously as its titular, quipping, pizza-cutting 'hero'. How can you not chuckle at lines like "You're the disease, and I'm the cure"?!
