SING STREET (10TH ANNIVERSARY)

MARCH 14

One of our favorite movies we've ever shown celebrates its 10th anniversary: Ireland's coming-of-age romantic musical Sing Street! Written and directed by the visionary behind Once, John Carney, Sing Street is a tenderly-exciting chronicle of young love, how it feels to create, the incendiary flame of youth, and a lament for how quickly that flame can be extinguished.

With the recession hitting people hard in Dublin during the 1980s, teenager Conor (Ferida Walsh-Peelo) is moved from his private school to a tough inner-city alternative. Struggling with poverty, a disillusioned brother (Jack Reynor), and his parents' crumbling marriage, Conor notices beautiful aspiring model Raphina (Lucy Boynton). As he tries to adjust to a new way of life, Conor starts his own rock 'n' roll band to win Raphina's heart and liberate his family through music.

Reminding us that music not only provides a score for our lives, but can change them, Sing Street's John Carney Once again penned an original soundtrack of instantly-singable pop-rock songs augmented by Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, and other musical highlights of the era.

"I laughed, I cried, I bought the soundtrack album." - The Observer (UK)

"Sing Street is a feel-good musical with huge heart and irresistible optimism, and its charming cast and hummable tunes help to elevate its familiar plotting." -95% critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes
