ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK W/ LIVE MUSIC BY SALEM WOLVES

JUNE 25

"Once You go In, You don't Come Out... Until Today." John Carpenter's Sci-Fi action-caper Escape From New York has been smuggled back on our big screen in a 4k restoration so gritty-grimy-sexy, it would make even Snake Plissken smile! Some movies have aura- this is one of them. Really immerse yourself in that retro-futuristic, cyberpunk vibe with an opening set of awesome, themed live-music by Salem Wolves before the film!

In 1997, a major war between the United States and the Soviet Union is concluding, and the entire island of Manhattan has been converted into a giant maximum security prison. When Air Force One is hijacked and crashes into the island, the president (Donald Pleasence) is taken hostage by a group of inmates. Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), a former Special Forces soldier turned criminal, is recruited to retrieve the president in exchange for his own freedom.

Influencing subsequent genius of the genre including William Gibson's cyberpunk novel Neuromancer, JJ Abrams' Cloverfield, and Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid video-game universe, director John Carpenter crafted a grim, wildly speculative, dystopian future that has already long past (1997!) - but still holds a soiled mirror to society today. Filled with some of the best character actors of the era and glorious taciturn one-liners like "Call me Snake" and "get a new president"- if you're thinking of skipping this definitive 80's film and all time-cult classic, your answer better not be "I'm too tired, maybe later..."

"John Carpenter is offering this summer's moviegoers a rare opportunity: to escape from the air-conditioned torpor of ordinary entertainment into the hothouse humidity of their own paranoia. It's a trip worth taking". -Richard Corliss of TIME.

“Salem Wolves will never die They’ve tried to kill them, but it never seems to stick." Since 2015, Salem Wolves have whipped up an unholy ruckus all their own—mixing swaggering garage rock, power punk, and stadium-ready anthems into something dark, hooky, and all their own. Having built a devoted local following, the Wolves’ latest concept record, The Psychotron Speaks, invokes equal parts Coast to Coast AM, Strange Tales Comics, and Monday Night Raw. Cutting their teeth on the local touring circuits of New England, they’ve released critically acclaimed albums Tooth & Nail and Shake (produced by Grammy-nominated Chris Johnson of Deafheaven), as well as EPs Never Die!!! and Hostile Music before signing with Tor Johnson Records (https://torjohnsonrecords.com/). The band has been featured in the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, and NPR.”
