THE THING 4K RESTORATION

FEBRUARY 22

John Carpenter's The Thing 4k Restoration

Newport WinterFest Screening w/ a Beer Tasting pre-film from Rejects Beer!

From legendary genre director John Carpenter (Halloween) comes a sci-fi/horror masterpiece of suspense and creeping, cold dread. Adapted from the John W Cambell's novella Who Goes There? and a remake of 1951's The Thing From Another World, 1982's The Thing revolutionized the Sci-Fi genre by making it not only realistic with its Everyman vs The Unknown scenario, but damn scary. Renowned for its groundbreaking craft, particularly the practical special effects that still look better than 99% of CGI today- The Thing also features a top-notch score by maestro Ennio Morriccone.

In remote Antarctica, a group of American research scientists are disturbed at their base camp by a helicopter shooting at a sled dog. When they take in the dog, it brutally attacks both human beings and canines in the camp and they discover that the beast can assume the shape of its victims. A resourceful helicopter pilot (Kurt Russell) and the camp doctor (Richard Dysart) lead the camp crew in a desperate, gory battle against the vicious creature before it picks them all off, one by one.

Released during a recession against optimistic films like E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, The Thing was a flop upon release but has since rightly garnered an otherworldly cult following. In theme with its frigid Arctic setting, this screening is officially part of Newport Winter Fest's line-up. Warm up with a Rejects Winter Ale or IPA at the in-lobby tasting pre-film and beat the chill with a beautifully restored masterpiece in 4k on the big screen!

Doors & Beer Tasting @ 7:45, Movie @ 8:30. Tickets: $15, $12.50 w/ Winterfest Bracelet.
