SUNRISE: A SONG OF TWO HUMANS (SILENT) W/ LIVE MUSICAL SCORE

FEBRUARY 15

From pioneering director F.W. Murnau (Nosferatu) screens a beautiful silent film that serves as an allegorical tale and a deeply felt romance. Winner of the first Academy Award Ceremony's Unique and Artistic Feature Award and featuring the first Best Actress Oscar winning performance by Janet Gaynor, Sunrise: A Song Of Two Humans was voted the 5th best film in history by The British Film Institute and is widely celebrated as the paramount of the Silent Era. Murnau's famed expressionistic visual style yields truly stunning cinematography and lush performances, for any era of film, pristinely projected on our big screen. Enormous (and expensive) set pieces for the era and fairy-tale like art direction make Sunrise an enchanting romantic fable and unforgettable cinematic horizon to see in the cinema!

Bored with his wife (Janet Gaynor), their baby and the dull routine of farm life, a farmer (George O'Brien) falls under the spell of a flirtatious city girl (Margaret Livingston) who convinces him to drown his wife so they can escape together. When his wife becomes suspicious of his plan and runs away to the city, the farmer pursues her, slowly regaining her trust as the two rediscover their love for each other in this award-winning silent classic.
