From Ryan Coogler-director of "Black Panther" and "Creed"-and starring Michael B. Jordan comes a new vision of fear: "Sinners." Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.
Sinners is one of the uniquely original cinematic visions this century. It's a meticulously crafted tale of black prohibition bootleggers in the Jim Crow South. A character study of a 30's Mississippi town residents, who thrive, despair, love and hope amidst searing racial tension, its very easy to be sucked into Sinners before remembering it's ostensibly a horror movie... did I mention there's blood sucking vampires? Folk singing vampires fond of Celtic jigs?
Sinners' masterful utilization of music- both classic and original is one of the most visceral you'll experience during a movie. Featuring Blues and Folk staples, traditional Celtic Music, hip-hop, an original score by Oppenheimer Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, and an awesome amalgamation of all the above styles- the music alone is worth the price of admission. The JPT with it's history of Folk and Celtic music performances feels a special kinship to the film's soundtrack- indeed it features musicians who have performed on our stage multiple times, like Rhiannon Giddens and Irish singers The High Kings who perform all the Irish songs in the movie and return to the JPT stage for two shows this July!
With the most financially impressive cinematic opening for an original film in modern history, and fervent critical and audience approval, we're proud to bring visionary director Ryan Coogler's landmark film to our big screen!
