SEPTEMBER 17
After a global war results in widespread oil shortages and ecocide, civilization collapses and the world descends into barbarism. Former policeman Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson), haunted by the death of his family, drives around the the post-apocalyptic highways of what was once the Australia Outback. Scavenging for food and petrol with his dog, Max fends off attacks from nomadic tribes that prey on outsiders. Falling into an encampment led by the relatively peaceful Pappagallo, Max at first schemes to steal their oil, but soon becomes the group's reluctant defender against the hulking Humungus and his ruthless marauders.
A sequel to 1979's cult-independent Australian hit Mad Max about a rapidly crumbling-into-dystopia society, Mad Max 2 was released simply as The Road Warrior to an American audience unfamiliar with its predecessor. The supercharged V8 engine of The Road Warrior quickly revved into a massive success- ensuring a legendarily helmed franchise for auteur director, George Miller, and making uncouth Mel Gibson an international star.
For my money- The Road Warrior showcases the best car-chase scene ever filmed- see it roar in high-octane, gasoline guzzling glory on our big screen, powered by our new projector that would even make Lord Humongous envious.
4k Restoration by Warner Brothers.
