DECEMBER 1
It's been 50 years this week since the legendary farewell concert by The Band in California, complete with a veritable who's who of superstar musician friends. Filmed live by a young, future-great-filmmaker named Marty, director Martin Scorsese would release his much celebrated chonicle of this immortal show, The Last Waltz, in 1978- now considered arguably the greatest concert film ever made (competing only with Stop Making Sense). To honor the 50th Anniversary of the original show Thanksgiving-week 1976 concert we're screening a restored version of the film to relive the magic with music that defined a generation. Featuring a live set of music by soulful-powerhouse performer Hawk In The Nest (Avi Jacob) pre-film- playing famous tunes by the legendary artists who performed at the famed Last Waltz concert in 1976.
Seventeen years after joining forces as the backing band for rockabilly cult hero Ronnie Hawkins, Canadian roots rockers The Band call it quits with a lavish farewell show at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom on Nov. 25, 1976. Filmed by Martin Scorsese, this documentary features standout performances by rock legends such as Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell and Muddy Waters, as well as interviews tracing the group's history and discussing road life.
Live Music by Avi Jacob at 6:30. Movie @ 7:30.
About Avi Jacob: Current nominee for Roots Act of the Year and Song of the Year by the New England Music Awards, Hawk In The Nest is the music project of award winning singer-songwriter Avi Jacob, who celebrates elements of Folk, Pop, Bluegrass, and Americana along with R&B. Avi has performed as direct support for many great artists including the Marcus King Band, Dr. John, the Lone Bellow, Mipso, The Counting Crows, and playing around 200 shows a year. His 2018 EP "Surrender" was produced by Simone Felice, known for his work on The Lumineers' Billboard #1 album "Cleopatra," and was featured in American Songwriter Magazine. 2026 saw Avi win the New England Songwriting Contest for Best Folk/Americana song.
