Films Of Future Past

See director Christopher Nolan's awe-inspiring Science Fiction opus back in the cinema before his latest epic The Odyssey (opening at the JPT July 31st). Shot on film, Interstellar's famed fidelity to scientific accuracy only amplified the groundbreaking special effects of the theoretical physics and near-future-tech so excitingly portrayed.

In Earth's future, a global crop blight and second Dust Bowl are slowly rendering the planet uninhabitable. Professor Brand (Michael Caine), a brilliant NASA physicist, is working on plans to save mankind by transporting Earth's population to a new home via a wormhole. But first, Brand must send former NASA pilot Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and a team of researchers through the wormhole and across the galaxy to find out which of three planets could be mankind's new home.

Author George R. R. Martin called it "the most ambitious and challenging science fiction film since Kubrick's 2001."

Associated Press wrote in 2024, "During its time, Interstellar was received warmly and an unambiguous success, but it also had its detractors. Its five Oscar nominations and win were all for crafts. And yet in the decade since, Interstellar has become beloved, a true classic."
