A documentary featuring local dance icon Jackie Henderson & her Off the Curb Dancers.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the documentary “The Heart Of Hip Hop” featuring Newport’s first & only hip hop dance troupe. Founded by Jackie Henderson in 1992, Off the Curb was a youth outreach program that used hip hop dance to inspire kids to dance, develop their authentic selves and stay away from negative influences. This powerful, inspiring & very moving documentary created by Susan Cobey, won countless film festival awards and was aired on PBS. The documentarian followed Jackie & her dancers from 1997 - 1999 and captured many of the joys & challenges of this unique and extraordinary dance company.
