HAROLD AND MAUDE W/ LIVE CAT STEVENS MUSIC BY AVI JACOB

SEPTEMBER 3

"The original cult film..." -Variety 2021. If the concept of cult-films have a progenitor (or a very kooky grandparent), Harold and Maude is the very kooky, yet comforting pair of grandparents you can't wait to return and see, now beloved by multiple generations.

This cult classic pairs Bud Cort as Harold, a dead-pan disillusioned 20-year-old obsessed with suicide and a loveable Ruth Gordon as fun-loving 80-year-old eccentric Maude. They meet at a funeral, and develop a taboo romantic relationship, in which they explore the tired theme of the meaning of life with a fresh perspective.

Both a somewhat twisted dark comedy and a truly affecting romance, Harold and Maude exemplifies early 70's hippie ideals of rejecting societal norms in the existential search for a meaningful life. Too cool for its contemporaries, Harold and Maude featured a score composed and performed by famed musician Cat Stevens. For this screening enjoy a vibe-setting concert by local folk musician Avi Jacob who will play the music of Cat Stevens (including songs heard in the film) live on stage before the film! Hailing from Dartmouth Mass, Avi is an accomplished guitar player & vocalist who recently had a Bob Dylan tribute residency at Providence's Music mansion, writes & performs his own music, and hopes to play the 2026 Newport Folk Festival.
