THE DAY ICELAND STOOD STILL

OCTOBER 27

The Day Iceland Stood Still: What if Every Woman Simply Took the Day Off?

Featuring a post-film Q and A with filmmaker Pamela Hogan.

Presented by the League of Women Voters of Newport County and the JPT.

October 24, 1975: 90% of the women of Iceland walked off the job and out of their homes one fall morning in 1975, refusing to work, cook, or take care of the children. Men scrambled to fulfill their duties, sometimes comically so. A gleeful, amazing tale of the feminist collective, "The Red Stockings", and their search for equality.

They brought their country to a standstill and catapulted Iceland to the “best place in the world to be a woman” today.

Perfectly timed for release in the lead-up to the strike’s 50th anniversary in 2025, the film’s message about the collective power of women to transform their society inspires viewers to reimagine the possible!

The JPT will donate $2 per ticket to the League Of Women Voters.
