7TH HEAVEN (1927, SILENT) W/ LIVE MUSICAL SCORE BE JEFF RAPSIS

FEBRUARY 15

Nominated for Best Picture and winner of Best Director (Frank Borzage), Best Actress (Janet Gaynor), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Benjamin Glazer) at the VERY FIRST Academy Awards in 1927- 7th HEAVEN remains one of cinema's divine romances almost as century later. Screened in our historic theater 99 years after originally showing here- this big-screen showing will be accompanied by a live musical score on synth-piano by virtuosos musician/Silent Film Expert Jeff Rapsis!

Chico (Charles Farrell) is a poor Parisian sewer cleaner who aspires to work his way out of his dead-end job and into the middle class. When he meets Diane (Janet Gaynor), an abused prostitute, he sympathizes with her plight and tells the police she's his wife to prevent them from arresting her. To keep up the appearances of marriage, he invites Diane to live with him, and a real romance blossoms until Chico is drafted in the army at the start of World War I.

Hugely popular in its day and still influential- Filmmaker Damien Chazelle has said the ending of his 2016 musical La La Land was inspired by the ending of 7th Heaven. Experience the magic of century-old-cinema as it was in 1927, complete with a musical score improvised live.

Jeff Rapsis will introduce the film and conduct an audience Q&A after!
