Sip and Screen:: JPT pairs local brews and live music with classic films this April
The Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center (The JPT) invites the public to a night out in Newport, featuring an unforgettable lineup of films paired with local beer, live music, and stunning 4K restorations. From romantic classics to cult favorites, the JPT remains Newport’s go-to destination for unforgettable cinematic events.
“You could technically stay at home and watch these beloved classic movies, but it’s nowhere near fun as watching them in their intended, big screen glory with an audience of people who love them as much as you, or discovering their greatness for the first time,” says Alex Whitney, General Manager of The JPT. “We believe in crafting memorable cinematic experiences, that’s what has sustained moviegoing for over 100 years, and what will keep the theatrical experience alive for the next century!”
Savor shortbread and tea with “Pride & Prejudice,” sip Ragged Island brews before “10 Things I Hate About You” with a live set by Motion Avenue, enjoy a bold hops and herbs pairing for “Blue Velvet” from Rejects Beer Co. and goodies from Hangar 420, or dive into noir with a pinot tasting before Stanley Kubrick’s “The Killing.” Whether you’re a film buff or just looking for a memorable night out, the JPT blends local flavor with legendary films all season long.
Brewing and a Viewing
Pride & Prejudice (2005) – April 23, 7:30 p.m.
Travel back in time to Regency England with tea and complimentary shortbread from June Love Bakery as Mr. Darcy and Ms. Bennet return to the big screen for the 20th anniversary of this fan-favorite romantic classic. If you can’t get enough of the film adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel, make sure to pick up a copy of the book from Charter Books in the lobby to continue the story after the credits roll
Blue Velvet (1986) – April 24, 7:30 p.m.
Whether it’s for the first time or a refresher, watch David Lynch’s timeless neo-noir thriller that uncovers the dark secrets hidden beneath the façade of a quiet suburban town. Enjoy beer tastings from Rejects Beer Co. and goodies from Hangar 420 to take the edge off as the mystery of seemingly quaint Lumberton unravels before your eyes in stunning 4K restoration.
The Killing (1956) – April 29, 7:30 p.m.
Noir Nights returns with the Stanley Kubrick Master of the Magic Medium series, where guests can channel their inner ‘40s and ‘50s detective with a pre-film pinot noir tasting before viewing this classic crime caper in glorious 4K restoration. “The Killing” is a cult-favorite for a reason, following the twists and turns of an ambitious racetrack robbery with a twist of its own.
10 Things I Hate About You (1999) – April 30, 8 p.m.
Embrace your inner ‘90s teen with Heath Ledger and Julie Stiles, but this time, no cracking of cold ones under the metal stadium benches; rather enjoy beer tastings from Ragged Island Beer and live music pre-film from local band Motion Avenue. This cult-classic, campy rom-com with a star-studded cast is a crowd-pleaser for all ages.
