Jane Pickens Theater will serve up cult classics, new Wes Anderson film in June

The Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center (The JPT) continues its dynamic film series with timeless classics from the 1950s, 1970s, and 1980s. Whether you’re a fan of teenage romcoms, dystopian crime, or seeing an old favorite black-and-white film brought back to life through live performance, The JPT has something for every film fanatic.

Sip Lyvley canned classic espresso martinis while you recall teenage years of romance and boomboxes atop lovers’ heads as you watch Say Anything… on June 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Cameron Crowe’s directorial debut as part of the Cult Classics Collection. Follow Lloyd’s determination to capture the heart of the class sweetheart Diane despite her father’s objections.

Watch the final installment of the Stanley Kubrick Master of the Medium series, A Clockwork Orange, on June 4 at 7:30 p.m. where Alex DeLarge and his band of droogs embark on a night of ultra-violence, leading down a path of insanity and psychological experimentation. A kooky classic which gained a cult following for its dystopian themes returns to the screen in 4K restoration.

See the live action of the 1951 play set in New Orleans, National Theatre Live: A Streetcar Named Desire on June 5 at 4 p.m. Blanche rolls into town with no money and no plans except to bunk with her sister and husband but gets caught in the crosshairs of a tumultuous relationship. The National Live Theatre performance brings glorious technicolor to this classic ‘50s film that will have you screaming “Stella!” all throughout the town.

These cult-classic films lead up to another fan-favorite: Wes Anderson. His newest film, The Phoenician Scheme, centers around an unlikely father-daughter dynamic in a dark espionage narrative set as he names her the sole heir to his estate. It isn’t long before they’re hunted by cunning tycoons, global terrorists, and ruthless assassins in classic Wes Anderson quirky comedy style. Showtimes begin June 5.

“It feels specially fitting anytime the JPT can premiere a new Wes Anderson film,” said Alex Whitney, general manager of The JPT. “Wes’s signature blend of quirky charm, storybook aesthetic, and A-list actors in a vibrant ensemble cast brings out the best of the big screen. We have history with Wes Anderson — he rented the theater for cast and crew during Moonrise Kingdom, and we still have some of Moonrise’s original props. There’s no better place to see his latest cinematic adventure!”
