Truly deserving of the moniker ‘visionary’ David Lynch left an indelible mark on film with his penchant to experiment, to shock, to unsettle, to inspire laughter, and to highlight humanity in the face of absurdity. Preeminent film critic Pauline Kael called Lynch the first “popular surrealist.” Critic J. Hoberman wrote, “Like Frank Capra and Franz Kafka, two widely disparate 20th-century artists whose work Mr. Lynch much admired and might be said to have synthesized, his name became an adjective.” His body of work defies genres outside of itself, ‘Lynchian’ is liken to some literary classics- sometimes hard to access, but once appreciated, endlessly enriching!

From his first feature, Eraserhead, that helped define the ‘midnight movie’, to seminal TV show Twin Peaks, to his recent cameo in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans as director John Ford- David Lynch was unapologetically himself. Winner of a Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, three-times Oscar nominated, and sporting an awesome stable of collaborative disciples including Kyle MacLachlan, Nicolas Cage, Laura Dern, Naomi Watts, Isabella Rossellini, and so many fans beyond.
