Francis Ford Coppola’s THE GODFATHER is one of the best genre films of all time. Mario Puzo wrote both the original novel and the screenplay, and this consistency of narrative helps the film to stand as a milestone in the depiction of the Italian mafia.

Al Pacino plays Michael Corleone, the son of Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) who has returned from WWII to see the wedding of his sister. However much Michael may want to stay out of the family business, his filial piety thrusts him into the heart of a gathering gang-war and his role as the natural successor of the aging Don.
