The Big Chill (1983) A once close-knit gang of friends -- including a journalist (Jeff Goldblum), an actor (Tom Berenger), a doctor (Glenn Close) and her husband (Kevin Kline), a Vietnam veteran (William Hurt), and a housewife (JoBeth Williams- meets for a weekend after the funeral of their much-envied friend Alex, who committed suicide. The friends spend the weekend confronting the personal truths, sacrifices and betrayals that have left them disenchanted. Each must contend with unresolved issues they have with Alex, and with one another.
About Fred Zilian: After a 21-year career as an infantry officer in the Army, Fred Zilian was for 23 years an educator at Portsmouth Abbey School, where he taught history, ethics, and German. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Salve Regina University, Newport, RI, where he teaches history and politics, a writer for The Hill and the History News Network,and a columnist for the Newport Daily News. Zilian holds a Ph.D. in international relations/strategic studies from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University.
